MULTAN:
In a bid to provide financial support, the government has announced an Artists Support Fund. Under the scheme, 79 deserving artists have been provided cheques of Rs60,000 each.

This was stated by Multan Arts Council Director Sajjad Jahania who addressed the cheque distribution ceremony on Friday.

Sajjad said artists create an environment of tolerance, brotherhood and harmony through their work. “Their efforts to promote art are of great importance to the cultural policy of the Punjab government,” he added.

“We are going to extend the scope of the arts council from the division to district level. Arts councils will be established in other districts.”

The director maintained that applications were received for Khidmat Cards for artists who were over 50 years of age and their income was less than Rs15,000.

“After scrutinising the applications, at least 79 artists from Multan have been selected for Khidmat Cards. The government will give Rs5,000 monthly to these artists for their financial support,” he pointed out.

He said the scheme of Khidmat Cards was started in July 2017. “The artists will be awarded the cards soon and withdraw the money from ATMs without a hindrance,” he mentioned.
