QUETTA: Assistant Commissioner (AC) Sania Safi on Monday arrested 35 shopkeepers and sealed 52 shops for selling substandard goods. The Quetta AC fined Rs200,000 for violating the government price control list in the holy month of Ramazan.

On the special directives of Quetta Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Farrukh Atique, Safi, AC Sadar Babrak Khan and special magistrate’s team initiated crackdown against profiteers in different areas, including Joint Road, Nawn Killi, Mizan Chowk, Kasi Road, Brewery Road, Sariab Raod, Prince Road, Khuda-i-Dad Chowk and Shehbaz town, said a press release.

Nine more violators arrested, five shops sealed in Quetta

At least 35 shopkeepers were arrested on charging double from customers and fined Rs200,000 during the crackdown.

However, as many as 52 shops were reported to be sealed on the basis of selling substandard goods in the area.

AC Safi said, “The government’s price control list is being monitored on a daily basis to provide relief to the masses in the holy month of Ramazan by the local administration.

Crackdown against violators enters second day

"Directives were issued to all shopkeepers to follow the government’s price list."

She said that strict action would be taken against those shopkeepers who do not follow the price control list.
