KARACHI: An accountability court sought on Friday the Supreme Court's bail orders for former Sindh inspector-general of police Ghulam Hyder Jamali who has been accused of corruption in the police department in a reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The accountability court remarked that if the former IG had been granted bail, its orders should be produced or else arrest warrants for Jamali will be issued again.

Jamali's lawyer argued that his client had been granted bail by the apex court, to which a NAB prosecutor replied that the bureau had yet not received any such orders.

Former SP Ghulam Nabi Kairayo and other suspects were produced before the court. A witness of NAB, Establishment DIG Naeem Sheikh, could not record his complete statement. The accountability court adjourned the hearing till June 19.

In its reference, NAB has charged Jamali and other suspects with carrying out 881 illegal appointments, which caused a loss of Rs504.66 million to the national exchequer. The illegal appointments were made against the posts of constables, computer operators and other staff. Reference has been made on the charges of misuse of authority, corruption and nepotism.
