QUETTA : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed deep concerns over the unsafe coal mines in Balochistan and the plight of coal miners who work without safety precautions digging deep inside the mines.
On a five-day visit to Quetta, NHRC member and former minister Fazila Aliani met the office-bearers of coal mine labor unions and the officials of Mines and Minerals Department to discuss the two coal mine accidents in Balochistan in which 23 miners were killed after methane gas explosions.
Aliani expressed concern over the death of coal mine workers in the May 5 incidents and prayed for a quick recovery of those who got injured. She shared sympathies with the families that lost their loved-ones in the tragic incidents.
It is alleged that mine owners and local contractors endanger the lives of coal miners by not adopting safety measures.
Balochistan is infamous for coal mine incidents. Hundreds of miners are killed due to mine explosions every year.
