Sindh govt's final reply sought on formulation of police transfer, posting rules

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has directed the Sindh government to submit its final reply on the formulation of rules for transfers and postings of police officers.

A two-member bench was hearing contempt of court proceedings against Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon over alleged non-implementation of the court's judgment regarding the enactment of rules to regulate transfers, postings and tenures in the police force.

Additional Advocate-General Shabbir Shah informed the bench that the Sindh government has started preparations for a new Sindh police act. The police laws are being revised from the beginning and a draft of the act has been prepared, said Shah.

The draft law will soon be submitted to the provincial Cabinet for approval, he said , adding that the police rules will also be reviewed in the new law. However, until the new act is approved, he said, no action should be taken and time should be given for a final reply.

Therefore, the court directed the Sindh government to submit its final reply till May 8.

Plaintiff Karamat Ali, in his plea, said that the suggestions of the inspector-general of police were not being incorporated in the Sindh Police Transfer and Postings Act, 2017 which was against the court's directives.
