LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime wing arrested a man named Zubair for blackmailing women using their pictures and videos after befriending them on Facebook in Iqbal Town on Thursday, Express News reported.

The FIA apprehended the man during a raid and confiscated several explicit photos and videos found on his cell phone and laptop. A case has been registered under the cyber act.

A woman named Firdous, a resident of Iqbal Town, had lodged a complaint against Zubair. In the complaint, she stated how she had befriended the accused on Facebook.

As their friendship blossomed, they took pictures and videos together. Zubair then edited these pictures and videos to make them explicit.

He used this fabricated material to blackmail her for several months, over the course of which she has handed over Rs0.2 million, the complaint detailed.

Earlier this week, the FIA’s cybercrime wing declared a senior Punjab Police official as an absconder after he uploaded his wife’s private pictures and videos on social media. With the help of a friend, Arshad made a fake Facebook account and forwarded private pictures of his wife to her family. This was done in an attempt to prove her alleged “immorality” after she refused to allow him to marry another woman.

Arshad’s wife registered the complaint against him. During the investigation, the FIA concluded that Arshad was behind the creation of the fake account and registered a case against him. However, Arshad managed to flee after the court rejected his bail.
