QUETTA : Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Director Electoral Rolls Wing Babar Malik has said that the commission has established 1,400 display centres across Balochistan with 590 in Quetta where people can review their names in the voters’ lists for general elections 2018.
“People, who want to change, add or delete their names from the voters’ lists, can visit display centres and submit forms in the offices of the deputy commissioner and the ECP,” said Malik while addressing a news conference in Quetta on Sunday.
The director electoral rolls wing said, “The final voters’ lists will be frozen till April 24 and then sent for printing. After that no changes will be allowed in the final electoral names.”
According to the ECP, approximately 489,397 new names have been added to the voters’ lists of Balochistan since December 2017, taking the total number of registered voters to 4.19 million in the province.
Sharing details, Malik said, “There will be many women voters during 2018 elections in Balochistan as a large number of new women voters have been registered.”
On national voters’ lists, the director electoral rolls wing said, “The ECP has deleted names of at least 8,000 registered voters from national voting lists as they had expired.”
However, he said that he was expecting an addition of up to 1.5 million new voters.
After the addition of new voters from various cities of Balochistan, the ECP has shared the complete details of voters in the province, he added.
The number of voters in Awaran has reached 75,565, Barkhan 66,934 voters, Pishin 247,280, Panjgur 97,885, Jaffarabad 212,685, Jhal Magsi 58,249, Chagai 88,149, Khuzdar 222,987, Qilla Abdullah 227,213, Kalat 130,387, Gwadar 117,073, Kohlu 57,436 and Loralai 135,247.
Malik urged the electronic and print media to share awareness among the people of Balochistan in order for them to check their names on the voters’ lists at the ECP display centres.
