Rain in AJK ends dry spell of weather

Tourists from different parts of the country were seen heading to Neelum Valley and other recreational spots

MUZZAFARABAD: Rain in most parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Sunday ended the weeks-long dry spell and brought a pleasant change in weather.

The capital city Muzaffarabad received showers following the week-long hot weather.

Showers were also reported from the upper reaches of Neelum Valley, Bagh, Haveli, Jehlum Valley, Leepa and Rawalakot.
Tourists from different parts of the country were seen heading to Neelum Valley and recreational spots to enjoy the weather as the District administration of Neelum and Jehlum Valley issued the message ‘roads are open for every kind of traffic.’

Tariq Hassan, a tourist from Lahore described the weather ‘a winter season’ and said it was a great experience to visit AJK in such a beautiful weather.

We will continue to visit AJK to enjoy its natural beauty, he added.

AJK Tourism Department Assistant Director Raeis Khawaja said the department has made all tourist reception centres are open to guide tourists at Kohala, Bararkot and Azad Pattan.

“We want to guide and brief the tourists about the famous tourist spots of AJK,” Khawaja said.

He added besides verbal information we distribute printed material about the tourist destinations among the visitors.

Khawaja believes “more than 0.5 million visitors will turn up to AJK before Ramazan to enjoy the lush green valleys of the region” adding that every year more than one million tourists visit AJK from the month April to October.
