At least three police constables including an ASI were suspended after mourners staged a protest against torture, killing of a young man in Rawalpindi, Express News reported.

The deceased, Rehan, was reportedly killed at Ganj Mandi Police Station after being torture by the police officials. According to Imran, brother of the victim, Rehan was detained the night before being tortured to death. “My brother was a drug addict but not a drug smuggler,” he said.

The police station was vandalised by mourners protesting against killing of the 23-year-old. They said the police had registered a case against the deceased and were not handing over his body.

The protestors pelted stones at the police and ransacked the station, forcing constables to flee from the scene. The situation was controlled after heavy troops reached Ganji Mandi Police Station to resolve the issue through dialogue. The crowd peacefully dispersed as their demand of further investigation was agreed upon.

Meanwhile, DSP Farhan Aslam maintained that Rehan was a habitual offender involved in robbery, drug smuggling and possession of illegal weapons. He said the police had registered an added drug smuggling case against the deceased.
