Balochistan to unveil health policy in two months: Health minister

Says province on track of record development with health programmes 100 % funded

QUETTA: Calling for a national programme for family planning and primary health care, Balochistan Health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch has claimed that the province is on track of record development with all ‘vertical’ health care programmes being 100 per cent funded.

“Health and education departments were our priority when we cobbled a collation government in June 2013. Now all vertical health care programmes have been provided 100 per cent funding,” Baloch said while addressing an event in the provincial capital on Saturday.

The ceremony was arranged in connection with the National Programme for Family Planning and Primary Health Care and was attended by a number of ministers and MPs, including Finance Minister Sardar Aslam Bizinjo, Adviser to CM for Sports and Culture Mujeebur Rehman Hasni.

Baloch referred to the kidnapping of doctors during the previous regime and said when he took office the doctors were on streets and protesting for their safety. “We provided them a peaceful and safe environment and they started performing their duties.”

He said the provincial government had appointed 700 leady health workers (LHW) on permanent basis who were working on daily wage. “700 additional LHWs are being appointed to boost our National Programme for Planning and Family Healthcare,” he added.

Talking with reference to provincial autonomy in the wake of the 18th Amendment, Baloch said it was up to the provinces to reveal their healthcare policy, adding that they were working on it. “Our national health policy will be emerged in the next two months,” he said.

Finance Minister Bizinjo assured the audience that funds allocated for health department will be released on time. “Fulfilling our promise and the election manifesto, the finance department won’t create hurdles in releasing funds for healthcare.”

During the ceremony, the provincial ministers distributed medicine kits, keys of new vehicle and certificates and shields among the staff of health department.
