Ties with Oman ‘needs to be taken to new heights’

NA speaker tells Oman envoy bilateral relationship historic, deep-rooted

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan enjoys cordial relations with Oman, and friendship between the two countries needs to be taken to new heights through economic and parliamentary cooperation.

The speaker was talking to Al Sheikh Mohammed Omar Ahmed Al Marhoon, the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, who called him at the Parliament House on Thursday.

The speaker said Pakistan valued its relations with Oman, and cooperation at all levels would enhance the ties between the two countries.



“Pakistan attaches immense importance to its fraternal relations with Oman. The bilateral relations are historical and deep-rooted and based on commonalities of faith, culture and traditions. The geographical proximity can offer a great scope to step up the bilateral relationship between the two countries,” he said.

Sadiq said that the government had created conducive environment for foreign investment by introducing various incentives and reforms in the economic sector. He asked the ambassador to convey his invitation to his Omani counterpart to visit Pakistan.

Ambassador Al Marhoon termed the relations between Pakistan and Oman ‘historic and unique’. He said Oman considered Pakistan as brother state and wanted to further cement ties through rejuvenating parliamentary contacts and exploring possible avenues of economic cooperation.

The ambassador said that Pakistani expatriates in Oman “are playing an important role in driving the country’s economy”. He added that Oman would encourage skilled human resource from Pakistan in diverse sectors.
