KARACHI: The Darakhshan police have registered an FIR against four National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officers for their alleged involvement in kidnapping of a government officer.

A case was registered under sections 365-A/34 and 506-B of the Pakistan Penal Code by the Darakhshan police at the behest of Sindh High Court. The FIR, filed by former accounts officer of the Sindh AG Sikandar Ali Abro, nominates four NAB officers, Sarwech Shaikh, Choudhry Bilal, Iqbal Channa and Gul Afridi, on charges of kidnaping.

Darakhshan SHO Aurangzeb Khatak told Express News that on the night of December 18 Assistant NAB Director Shaikh asked Abro to meet him for an inquiry near Khayaban-e-Muslim. Shaikh’s car had two other men in the backseat, one of whom was introduced as the intelligence director of NAB Sukkur. Shaikh told Abro that the NAB director was there for his arrest and that if he wished, they would prolong his case for Rs10 million, helping him to file a pre-arrest bail in court.

When Abro declined, a scuffle broke out between him and the NAB officers who kept him hostage for another hour-and-a-half in their car, eventually brokering a Rs300,000 deal with his family. The scuffle started anew when the family arrived to collect Abro, after which the NAB officers fled.

Abro reported the incident and approached the SHC, which ordered the filing of an FIR against the officers. The police are carrying out raids to trace the culprits.
