LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has arrested a deputy director of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) over charges of embezzlement on Friday.

The arrested suspect was identified as Ahmad Khan. NAB Lahore had received complaints against him for embezzling funds in the housing sector and fabricating plot files for Mustafa Town.

ATC orders arrest of absconding accused

In June 2017, NAB team started investigations into the complaints. During investigations, they found manipulations in the preparation, approval and sale of around 16 files of Mustafa Town Lahore.

The team also found evidence that LDA officers and officials, in connivance with their agents, were involved in embezzlement worth millions of rupees through these manipulations.

According to the investigations, the modus operandi of the suspects was to prepare bogus and backdated exemption files, but they deducted all fees later to make the documents genuine.

Initial investigations contained 16 plot files, whereas eight other plot documents had been detected as bogus, thus far. In these, false exemption had been granted, stated an investigator.

‘Lack of official arrest confirmation is worrying’

NAB Lahore arrested six accused people thus far and three have entered a plea bargain to return all the looted wealth. Another two were on remand in judicial custody.

For further investigations, NAB Lahore has acquired the physical remand of accused Ahmed Khan from an accountability court till December 23, 2017.
