One killed as armed men open fire at funeral in Punjab

One person was killed and another injured when unidentified armed men opened fire at a funeral procession in Nurkot town, Punjab on Friday.

According to Express News, the funeral procession was held for father of the area's vice chairman of Union Council. One attendee, Zaheer Butt, was killed as a result of the firing. Another was severely injured. Both were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and started investigation into the firing incident.

Nurkot is a town in the Shakargarh Tehsil of Narrowal District of the Punjab province.

The incident comes hours after armed men clad in burqas stormed into Peshawar’s Agricultural Training Institute early Friday morning, killing nine and injuring scores others. Over 32 people, including a police sub-inspector and a constable sustained injuries in the attack.
