SARGODHA: Deputy Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha has called upon people to take preventive measures against environmental pollution in the interest of society and the coming generations.

While chairing a meeting on ‘Environmental pollution and bird control’ at PAF Mushaf Base, the DC directed the departments concerned to take action against people causing environmental pollution, especially those dumping factory waste, plying smoky vehicles, throwing untreated hospitals waste etc.

He said that over 386 smoke emitting vehicles were fined in the current year. He maintained that according to section 163 of Motor Vehicles Rule, the fine on a smoky vehicle was Rs750 while Rs200 on motorcycle.

The DC called for launching awareness campaign to promote cleaner habits, plant more trees and avoiding garbage dumping at unauthorised places.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner stressed the need to pay attention to special people for making them useful citizens of the society.
