‘More MIKD-like institutes likely to be set up in south’

Minister says government is trying hard to provide quality healthcare services to public

LAHORE: The Multan Institute of Kidney Diseases MIKD is a state-of-the-art health facility which has been providing treatment facilities to the people of remote areas.

In the future, more hospitals of such standard will be set up in southern Punjab.

This was stated by Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir on Wednesday. He was speaking to the medical staff after visiting the facility.

Provincial Minister for Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq and Secretary Health Najam Ahmad Shah were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Rafiq said that the Punjab government is endeavouring hard to provide quality healthcare services to the people of the province. He added that the MIKD was a precious gift of from the chief minister for the people of southern Punjab.

The minister made it clear that no hospital of southern Punjab would be privatised. He added that the government wanted to increase health facilities for under privileged people. For this purpose, health budget has already increased manifold and special grants have also been released to the hospital.

Shah said that full protection would be provided to the doctors, nurses and paramedics in the hospitals. However, health professionals should also be more careful while discharging their duties and avoid any negligence.

Multan Division Commissioner Bilal Ahmad Butt told the ministers that he had set up a camp office at the institute to supervise the construction work and for timely completion of the project.
