The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) cracked down on transporters who overcharged commuters during the Eidul Azha holidays.

In its fortnightly report, the NHMP said that they responded to 32,445 calls. On the directions of Inspector General Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, NHMP took stern action against complaints of overcharging by transporters during Eidul Azha.

Officers retrieved over Rs16 million and returned them to 183,583 passengers. Further, 7,859 tickets were issued for overcharging fares, and fines worth Rs6.3 million rupees were imposed. Additionally, 17,264 number of tickets were issued for overloading of passengers and fines of over Rs15 million were imposed. As many as 59,665 overloaded passengers were offloaded and 1,141 vehicles were returned from toll plazas due to an overload of passengers.

Moreover, 388,898 commuters were briefed about road safety with six road safety walks, six road safety workshops and 13 road safety seminars were conducted.
