Mahira Khan's 'Verna' features a rap song and we couldn't be more pleasantly surprised
Experience of working with the legendary Shoaib Mansoor is surreal, says Islamabad based rapper Xploymer Dar
KARACHI:
The man credited for the revival of Pakistani cinema is all set for a comeback, with yet another potential blockbuster Verna written and directed by the showman Shoaib Mansoor himself under his banner SHOMAN Productions.
The veteran writer, producer, director and the recipient of Pride of Performance has helmed blockbusters like Khuda Ke Liye and Bol, both critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies that not only brought back the long lost culture of film viewing in Pakistan but put the Pakistani film industry on the global entertainment radar. His latest flick will feature Mahira Khan in the lead role.
Mahira Khan shares first look from her upcoming movie 'Verna'
Recently, Mahira took to Twitter to share the first look of her upcoming movie which also marks the debut of Coke Studio sensation, Haroon Shahid.
But that’s not it! While we do have to wait a while for the teaser of trailer of the movie, we do have all the latest details regarding one of the songs from the movie!
Tentatively titled, Power Di Game, the song is sung by Islamabad based rapper Xploymer Dar, originally from crew called Rap Engineers. The song is to have a strong message in it.
“I was called by Shoaib Mansoor himself,” Dar exclusively revealed to The Express Tribune. “We worked on the song together. I initially wrote the song and then Shoaib modified it.”
“The experience of working with the legendary director is absolutely surreal. He’s brilliant at what he does. I was actually at ease while he re-wrote the lyrics to my song,” he confessed.
He went on to say, “Rappers are very egoistic when it comes towards our work. We don’t like to change much. But I had complete faith in Shoaib, and it paid off.”
“The song’s title is yet to be decided. You know how privately Shoaib Mansoor works. It’s pretty hard to get anything out of him before he believes the time is right. However, yes, the song is included in the movie and will be revealed soon,” he further added.
Mahira Khan talks about her new venture Verna
Previously, talking to The Express Tribune, Mahira stated, “Well, I think the whole journey now would be very very different. My part in Bol was small and also my first-ever acting experience. I was nervous but I was carefree, enjoying my time on set with the kids who played my brother and sisters. When Shoaib Saab called me after five years this time and told me the story, I knew I’d be challenged as an actor.”
When asked if this film will touch socially taboo topics just like other Shoaib Mansoor films, the superstar shared, “His films always do revolve around a certain social issue/taboo, yes this film does the same.”
Commenting on Shoman bringing about what no other director can, Mahira said, “In Bol he wanted me to just be myself, I don’t think I’ll have it that easy this time! I hope he can manage to bring out the best in me and I am ready to give it all I’ve got. InshaAllah.”
Shoaib Mansoor shared, “This film has been written and directed by a man of Pakistan for the men of the world to listen to women. It is to encourage women to speak up. Khuda ke liye bol verna…”
