Suspects were arrested on a tip-off in North Nazimabad, says CIA DIG

Police claimed on Thursday to have nabbed a gang of five people, including a couple and their son, involved in looting people drawing cash out of banks.

Zafar Hussain, his wife Ghazala, their son Sarfaraz alias Vicky and two others, Ashar Ali and Baqar Zaidi, were arrested on a tip-off in North Nazimabad area, Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) DIG Dr Jameel Ahmed announced at a press conference.

A joint team of the CIA and Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), headed by SSP Abdullah Ahmed received information about the movement of a gang involved in looting people drawing cash out of banks near the State Bank of Pakistan building in North Nazimabad neighbourhood, he said.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team was dispatched to the area and, during a snap-checking, officers spotted three men riding a motorcycle bearing number plate AFR-2017, SSP Abdullah said. As the motorcycle was intercepted, another motorcycle on which a woman and boy were travelling sped away, he added.

Three 30 bore pistols and a total of 17 rounds were seized from the suspects' possession and they were identified as Zafar, Ashar and Baqar, DIG Ahmed added. The suspects were booked under Section 23(1)A of the Sindh Arms Act, 2013 at the AVCC/CIA police station, said DIG Jameel.
During the interrogation, the suspects revealed the whereabouts of the two others, Ghazala and her son Sarfaraz, and they were arrested during a raid. Looted valuables and a motorcycle were recovered from their possession, he said.

According to the police, the suspects had been looting people in North Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and on II Chundrigar Road for over a decade and Zafar, the gang leader, was formerly a police constable who was dismissed from service over involvement in criminal activities.
