National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has once again requested the house’s opposition parties to nominate their members for the special committee meant to probe MNA Ayesha Gulalai’s harassment allegations against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and his peers.

The government has already nominated six members for the committee, however, PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami have refused to nominate their members, stated a press release issued by the NA Secretariat on Thursday.

The speaker had earlier asked the government and opposition parties to name their picks for the special committee in proportion to their representation in the assembly.

NA panel to investigate Gulalai’s allegations

According to the statement, the speaker asked the opposition to nominate at least four MNAs from its benches so that the committee may be notified in the pursuance of motion adopted by the house.

On the proposal of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the NA had on August 4 adopted a motion to form a special committee to probe Gulalai’s allegations within a month’s time.

Gulalai had parted ways with PTI on August 1, and in a subsequent press conference the same day had accused Imran and other party leaders of harassing party’s women workers, including herself, and sending them lewd text messages.
