KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Khurrum Sher Zaman demanded that the chief minister and health minister take immediate notice of the non-operational hospitals in Karachi that have been completed.

Zaman expressed dismay that fully-constructed hospitals have been non-operational and deserted for several years.

According to a story published on Wednesday in The Express Tribune, a 50-bed hospital located in SITE's Metrovile III, a 50-bed hospital facility in Azam Basti and 400-bed hospital at Nipa Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal are non-operational despite completion, Zaman said.

The MPA regretted that the state of public healthcare in Sindh is pathetic, despite the billions of rupees spent each year by the Sindh government. The existence of non-functional completed hospitals borders on criminal, he said.

Karachi needs these public hospitals to be made functional immediately. The above mentioned hospitals were mainly projects of the local government of Karachi and should not be held hostage due to jurisdictional issues or a political tug-of-war between the provincial and city governments, Zaman said.

The people of Sindh demand the government take immediate action to make all the non-operational completed hospitals in the province functional, he said.

"What kind of governance is this where we cry about the lack of health facilities and here the Sindh government has left these hospitals to become haunted houses?" questioned Zaman. Later, these hospitals will be occupied by mafias for their personal use, he warned.

It is clear now that the provincial government has failed to facilitate its voters with a basic facility, which every human must have, he said, adding that the government's behavior depicts they are least bothered when it comes to good governance and serving the masses.

They are busy in making money for themselves, he accused.
He demanded the government immediately open these hospitals for the public and give relief to the poor people, who have to go very far for treatment of their illnesses.

The government should learn from their mistake, he said, adding that it was the best way of improving governance in the country.

Pakistan Steel Mills

Demanding the finance minister immediately release pending salaries of the workers of Pakistan Steel Mills, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh asked the government not to ruin the strategic national asset and run it professionally and competently on an urgent basis.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sheikh claimed the rulers are ruining Steel Mills to provide benefit to the steel business of Nawaz Sharif. He alleged that the present CEO and general manager are involved in mega corruption.

The PTI will continue to raise its voice against dark conspiracies against the Steel Mills and its workers, he claimed. He said the rulers have already harmed many national institutions, including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Steel Mills. They have broken all records of corruption, he claimed.

Sheikh said the management of Pakistan Steel Mills have started a political vendetta against PTI labour wing leaders. Many of them have been transferred and cases have been lodged against many others. He said that same is the case of PIA, where the labour union belonging to the ruling party is involved in corruption and manhandling workers.

"We would not remain silent over these issues," he said.
