Japan hands over machinery worth $0.9m to TEVTA

JICA will also upgrade 13 other institutes of the authority

LAHORE: Japan has handed over state-of-the-art machinery and equipment worth 100 million Yen (US$0.9 million) to upgrade the Government College of Technology (GCT) in Faisalabad.

This was revealed by Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh. He was addressing a meeting to review of projects between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and TEVTA on Monday.

Sheikh said GCT Faisalabad was being converted into a centre of excellence thanks to the collaboration with JICA. In this regard, JICA has provided the latest machinery and equipment.”



He said JICA would also upgrade 13 other institutes of TEVTA. He said that the collaboration with JICA would not only be limited to upgrading, but Japanese master trainers were also working with Pakistani industries to upgrade TEVTA’s curriculum, as per the industry’s demands. He added JICA’s master trainers were already providing training to Pakistani teachers. “JICA’s cooperation is really commendable,” he said.

Amid Chinese investment, technical education on a roll

Sheikh said that the upgradation of institutes would help students avail job opportunities all across the globe. “They are being taught and trained on the latest machinery and equipment.” He hoped to extend the collaboration with JICA to provision of training to TEVTA’s students in Japan’s institutes. “The secret of Japan’s ultimate progress and development lies in the skilled hand.”
