ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani announced the formation of a special committee to improve the service structure of doctors during Monday’s National Assembly session.

Headed by Health Secretary Nargis Sethi, the committee is expected to present its recommendations to the prime minister within 15 days.

PM Gilani also assured the house that all contract doctors will be regularized and asked all doctors to treat their patients to the best of their abilities keeping in mind their moral and professional duty.

Earlier last week, three more patients lost their lives during the ongoing doctor’s struggle to get a salary raise.

The protests that started in Punjab have had a ripple effect, with doctors in Karachi and Hyderabad joining in protests.

The Punjab government has fired 186 protesting doctors and hired 465 new ones so far.
