Bilawal inaugurates first NICVD centre in Larkana

Health facilities to be provided in Mirpurkhas, Khairpur, Nawabshah by 2018, says CM

KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believes in accountability and there is no threat to democracy and Parliament due to the court's verdict against Nawaz Sharif, said PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He said this during the inauguration of the first satellite centre of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Larkana on Sunday. The PPP government has taken revolutionary steps in providing health facilities to the people of Sindh, he said. "I challenge all three chief ministers of the other provinces, including the Punjab CM, to establish similar facilities in their provinces," he said.
According to Bilawal, the people of Larkana have given sacrifices for the party and have struggled for the restoration of democracy. He said the party is indebted to the people of Larkana. He added that party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of Chandka Medical College in 1973 when medical facilities were limited to only a few big cities of the country.



According to Bilawal, NICVD has done great work by providing state-of-the art services to the people of Larkana. Earlier, there was no such service between Karachi and Lahore, and people had to suffer as they travelled for treatment to Karachi with their families. The lady health worker programme initiated by his mother, Benazir Bhutto, also resulted in provision of health facilities in far-flung areas of the country, he added. "Soon after the construction of the new building, the centre would start the facility of surgery for people of Larkana and its adjoining areas free-of-cost," he said.
Talking to the people, CM Murad Ali Shah said that the government has increased the budget of NICVD from Rs1.8 billion to Rs5.8 billion. According to him the institute was handed over to the Sindh government in 2001 after the 18th Amendment. This year, the satellite centres will also be established in Sukkur and Tando Muhammad Khan. By 2018, healthcare facilities related to heart diseases, would be provided in Mirpurkhas, Khairpur and Nawabshah.
