Argument with husband over petty domestic issue led to torture

BAHAWALPUR: A woman was beaten and later set on fire by her husband and in-laws over a petty domestic dispute on Saturday in Rahim Yar Khan.

Police said Hajra Bibi, 30, a resident of Moza Ghazi Barara near Rahim Yar Khan, had an argument with her husband Muhammad Shareef over some petty domestic issue which heated up and in a fit anger, the husband started beating Hajra until she fell unconscious.

Assuming her dead, Hajra’s husband and in-laws poured kerosene oil on her and set her on fire. Hearing her screams, the neighbours intervened and rescued Hajra. She was shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan for medical treatment.

On being informed, a team from Police Station Zahirpir arrived on scene and arrested Hajra’s father-in-law Mushtaq Ahmad and mother-in-law Chandan Mai while her husband escaped. Police said the victim suffered burn injuries and was in critical condition.
