Torrential rains hit parts of South Punjab

Many feeders trip resulting in power outages in several districts

Strong winds with heavy showers hit several districts of South Punjab, on Thursday.

The heavy downpour turned the weather pleasant and significantly dropped the temperature. According to the details, strong winds surrounded the city of Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Bahawalnager, Rahim Yar Khan, Hasilpur and other areas followed by heavy showers that helped reduce the temperature.

Heavy rains claim seven lives in South Punjab 

People have expressed their happiness as they feel relieved from the scorching hot weather. A large number of people came out of their homes as soon as the rain started to enjoy the weather.

However, rainwater accumulated on streets and roads disrupting the flow of traffic. Several cars were stuck in rainwater while workers of the district government were not present to drain out accumulated rainwater from major thoroughfares. Many feeders also tripped that resulted in power outages in several districts and their adjoining areas.


Meanwhile, the local metrological office has forecast cloudy weather with heavy rains during the next two days for Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar and its suburbs. It said a westerly rain system had entered South Punjab which would result in heavy rains and strong winds during the next 48 hours.

Heavens open up: Heavy rains lash South Punjab

Earlier in May, heavy rainfall had lashed South punjab reducing the temperature which had gone up to 47 degrees Celsius. Due to the heavy downpour, the weather had become pleasant and people in large numbers thronged parks and other public places to enjoy the cool weather.

The rainfall also brought a sigh of relief for the people of Cholistan as the region was facing a severe threat of drought.
