LAHORE: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is left with no option except to resign from his current post as his entire family has been found guilty of corruption” said Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in a meeting on Thursday.

Shujaat, along with senior party leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, made these remarks while speaking to a meeting of the four party alliance of PML-Q, Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT), Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and Majlis-e-Wahdatul Musalmeen (MWM).

He said that the ruling family did not only lie to the people of Pakistan, but also concealed assets accumulated through illegal means. He said that the ministers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) were trying to create ambiguity in the findings of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and were pushing the country towards confrontation. The adamant attitude of premier Sharif was bringing a bad reputation to the country, he added.

The meeting was attended by MNA Tariq Bashir Cheema, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Muhammad Basharat Raja, Salik Hussain and Khurram Nawaz Gandapur of PAT whereas Sahibzada Hamid Raza of Sunni Ittehad Council and Raja Nasir Abbas of MWM were contacted over the telephone. Chaudhry Shujaat also contacted Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq and exchanged views regarding the prevailing political situation.

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with party workers, Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Punjab President Abdul Aleem Khan said every page of the Panama JIT report was evidence of corruption by the Sharif family.

Khan said another offshore company was unearthed in the name of the prime minister and Pandora’s Box was opened after the London flats.

He said the rulers were found guilty in the JIT report; however, they were still trying to cling to power. “Earlier, the entire government machinery was trying to safeguard Sharif family by making false allegations against the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the JIT,” he added. “The accountability process was initiated on the direction of the apex court, but the rulers were trying to give impression that the report was a result of some third party intervention.”
