Encroachments from sensitive places of River Indus and Chenab will be removed

DERA GHAZI KHAN: As the Met office has warned of medium to high flooding in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur Districts, the district administration has devised a plan to strengthen the low lying areas and beef up the rescue and relief measures in view of the situation.

It was decided in the meeting of all concerned departments headed by Dera Ghazi Khan Commissioner Ahmad Ali Kamboh on Tuesday.

The commissioner directed to provide machinery and equipment according to the need of the concerned districts. He said encroachments from sensitive places of River Indus and Chenab should be removed and cleanliness of rainy nullahs and functioning of other machinery in Dera Ghazi Khan be completed.

It was further decided that safe shifting of affectees, provision of medicines, vaccination should be ensured during potential flooding. Besides, registration of livestock in Dera Ghazi Khan, SMS service system should be activated for timely contact with livestock farmers.

Ahmad directed the officials to conduct a survey of flood bunds and sensitive places, whereas awareness campaign should be initiated. He also issued instructions that control rooms in low-lying areas, emergency numbers would be displayed at proper places.

Meanwhile, officials briefed the commissioner that necessary machinery and equipment were being provided while keeping in view the requirements of the districts. They said all necessary steps were being taken for coping with possible floods and elimination of encroachments from sensitive places and relief camps have also been earmarked.
