BUREWALA:

A woman and her four-year-old granddaughter died after a car fell into a canal following a collision with a motorcycle near village 407-EB, rescue officials said.

Rescue sources said the accident occurred on a road along the canal when a car collided with a motorcycle and lost control, plunging into the Pakpattan Link Canal. As a result, the driver, identified as 55-year-old Farah Begum, a resident of Adda Kameer, and her granddaughter Marha Fatima drowned.

Rescue teams retrieved the bodies and shifted them to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital. Another passenger, Amina Bibi, mother of the deceased child, was rescued from the canal in an injured condition.

However, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, Hoorain Fatima, who was also in the car, went missing in the canal.

Rescue teams launched a search operation to locate the child, but it was suspended later due to darkness.

The motorcyclist involved in the accident also sustained injuries.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Imran Tipu and Assistant Commissioner Jawad Malik reached the scene and supervised the rescue efforts. Authorities said the search operation would resume at first light.
