Nothing gives you an insight into a city like a bustling, sprawling market. So for all the market junkies, we take you on a tour of some of the world’s most visited markets, exploring the best food, bargains and shopping!

Borough Market, London



No visit to London would be complete without a trip to Borough Market! The market has been around for at least 1,000 years and is heaven for foodies. From vintage cheeses to freshly baked bread, to exotic fruit to a variety of spices, fish and pastas; Borough Market is highly recommended!! 

What to buy: Artisanal cheese

When to visit: Try and hit the market on a Friday, an hour before lunch!

Jema el-Fnaa, Marrakech



One of the most unique cultural experiences in Morocco is the Jema el-Fnaa market in Marrakech. Although the experience can be an overwhelming one, it should definitely be on top of your list when in Marrakech. From the marvellous souks to the snake charmers, get lost in the maze of amazing colours and handmade products. 

What to buy: Moroccan handy crafts and Argan oil

When to visit: Any evening of the week!

Shilin Night Market, Taipei



Taipei’s iconic Shilin Night Market is a sprawling night market, with winding alleys, shops, street vendors and stalls. Multiple vendors are seen preparing Taiwanese snacks that will tantalise your taste buds! Grab a bite, play games and shop in the brightly lit market after dark.

What to buy: Fried Oyster omelette

When to visit: Any day after 7pm

Chatuchak Weekend Market, Bangkok



From knock-off handbags, to silks and spices, there’s nothing you won’t find at Chatuchak. With an estimated 15,000 stalls to shop from, the market is brimming with souvenirs and happy shoppers. Be sure to brush up on your bargaining skills before you head over to the market.

What to buy: Silk

When to visit: The market is only open on weekends, from 6am to 6pm
