MULTAN: A 10-year-old victim of a dog attack lost his life on Wednesday because of the ‘apathy’ of doctors in Punjab’s Vehari district.

Saifal, a resident of Khuh Chakki Wali in Tehsil Mailsi, had been grazing his goats in a nearby forest when he was attacked by wild dogs, victim’s father Sohrab Khan told The Express Tribune. “As a result he received bites on his face and all over his body.”

According to Khan, women working in the nearby fields rushed to help the boy after they heard the boy’s screams. “They took Saifal to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where the doctors refused to check his injuries,” he maintained.

The victim's uncle, Noor Hassan, said they pleaded the doctors for over an hour and even went to the medical superintendent of the hospital, but to no avail. “The MS told us to take the boy to the Multan Nishtar Hospital in a private ambulance instead of providing him with medical care,” he said.

The boy died two hours later outside the THQ hospital.

The victim’s family said had he received timely medical treatment he would have survived. Demanding strict action against the hospital’s management, it has asked the government to take notice of the matter.
