LAHORE: City police had launched an android-based app called “Welfare Eye” to help families of martyred policemen receive their welfare packages at home.

The app was inaugurated by Capital City Police Officer Amin Wains at his office on Tuesday.

DIG Investigations Chaudhry Sultan, DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG Security Moeen, SSP Administration Rana Ayyaz Salim, senior police officers and families of the martyred officials were present on the occasion.

SSP Rana Ayyaz Salim told The Express Tribune that the welfare policy covered families of three kinds of police officers: those who sacrificed their lives in line of duty (over 200 families), those who died in service (364) and those who were retired on medical grounds (72).

He said these families had been registered on the app and their profiles would be updated on a continuous basis on the finance, welfare and establishment branches by the computerized command and control rooms established at the CCPO office. “All the families have to do is send an SMS to the provided number and acquire welfare packages,” said Salim.

“Five women staffers have been hired for the control room to communicate with and solve the problems of the families.”

Salim said although it was a small intervention, it had great importance. “After the death of these honoourable officers, the police department is the only hope for the surviving families,” he added.

He said families faced a lot of trouble going from one office to another just to convey their concerns to the authorities. The SSP assured all their problems would be resolved through a single click.

“CCPO Amin Wains and I will review the progress on complaints sent through Welfare Eye,” he concluded.
