The suspect, identified as Syed Muhammad Sibtain Kazmi, was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on May 11.
Former ASWJ leader Maulana Azam Tariq's suspected murderer arrested from Islamabad airport
Tariq, the then MNA, was gunned down along with three of his guards and a driver in the limits of Islamabad's Golra police, on October 6, 2003, while returning from his constituency, Jhang, to attend a National Assembly session.
In 2003, Kazmi, along with 12 other suspects, were booked in the murder case of Azam Tariq by the Islamabad Police. Declared a proclaimed offender, a bounty of Rs 1million had also been announced for Kazmi's arrest.
The police, however, have confirmed that Kazmi was not booked for the act of murdering Tariq and the others, but had been accused by the complainant of conspiring to kill and facilitating the eventual murder.
According to police officials, a total of 13 people, including Kazmi, had been booked, some of whom have already been acquitted by courts while the others still face charges against them.
