Performance evaluation: Grey areas identified at teaching hospitals

LAHORE: Field coordinators, deputed by the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education secretary, highlighted grey areas in the performance of teaching hospitals and specialised healthcare institutions of Lahore.

The coordinators prepared their reports after monitoring and evaluating the performance of teaching hospitals and specialised healthcare institutions. After the reports were submitted to the department, a meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Special Secretary Dr Sajid Mahmood Chauhan, who reviewed the documents.

Monitoring and Evaluation SH&ME Director Zaheer Abbas Malik, Deputy Secretary General Syed Husnain Shah, consultant Dr Haq Nawaz Bharwana as well as field coordinators attended the meeting.

Workplace hazards: Health and safety day observed 

The reports presented in the meeting pointed out different gaps and grey areas in the sanitary system, cleanliness, availability of medicines, attendance of doctors and staff, functioning of biomedical equipment, strategic reserves for patients, outsourcing of janitorial services, cleanliness and unhygienic condition of washrooms, availability of wheelchairs and stretchers in the emergency department and maintenance of stores or pharmacies.

The field coordinators presented separate reports on Jinnah Hospital, Lahore General Hospital, Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Services Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Children Hospital.

Special Health Secretary Dr Sajid Mahmood Chauhan directed officers to perform their duties efficiently and improve the quality of monitoring reports. Chauhan said the main objective of the exercise was to improve the healthcare delivery system at teaching hospitals and provide quality treatment to patients.

He directed Zaheer Abbas Malik to call a meeting of administrative doctors of teaching hospitals/specialised institutions on Saturday evening so that deficiencies could be discussed.
