7 of a family killed in AJK road accident

All victims were women; three others injured as vehicle fell into ravine near Haveli district

MUZAFFARABAD: At least eight people, including seven women of a family, were killed and three others wounded in a road accident in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) on Thursday.

The accident occurred in Haveli district — around 185kms from Muzaffarabad — as the family was returning home after attending a wedding ceremony in Chanjal, police sources told The Express Tribune.

The sources said the driver lost control of the vehicle while taking a sharp turn near Zeenat Guest House in Haveli and it fell into a ravine, leaving eight people, including the driver, dead on spot. “Three women received injuries,” the sources added.

Road accident in AJK kills two, injures five

Pakistan Army personnel with the help of locals pulled out the bodies and injured from the wreckage and shifted the injured to Haveli District Hospital, where the injured women were said to be in a serious condition.

Later, the injured women were referred to Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Hospital Rawalakot for further treatment. Those killed were identified as Muhammad Asif (driver), Samina Kausar, Tanveer, Tanzeem Begum, Fareesha Begum, Fazal Jan Bibi, Nasreen and Saleema.

Following the incident, shopkeepers and traders in Haveli shut down their shops in a show of solidarity with the bereaved family.

Last month, two people were killed and five others injured when a car swerved off the road and fell into a ravine near Batmang area of AJK.
