ISLAMABAD: Police have busted a four-member gang of car thieves which included a serving official of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police.

As many as 12 stolen vehicles were also recovered from the suspects.

A police official told The Express Tribune that Arshad Manzoor, a resident of Rawlakot in AJK, had been serving as a constable with the AJK police and was posted in the special branch. He added that three suspects, Umair Zeb, Habibur Rehman and Muhammad Khalid, would steal cars from Islamabad and surrounding areas and take them to AJK. There, Manzoor would sell them.

Intriguingly, it was learnt that most of the stolen vehicles recovered from the suspects had been sold to officials of the AJK police. The cars had been stolen by the gang from Khanna, Koral, Aabpara, and Kohsar areas of the capital. Police have obtained three-day physical custody of the suspects from the court for investigation.

Police data also shows that over 50 cars and bikes were stolen from the capital in the first two months of the current year.
