Corporal punishment: Parents demand action against teacher

Protesters allege the teacher beat the students black and blue with sticks.

MULTAN: The parents and relatives of students of a government school staged a protest demonstration demanding strict action against a teacher who inflicted corporal punishment on schoolchildren in Thatha, Sadiqabad.

The protesters alleged a female schoolteacher in Chakk 138-10R punished the whole class for the mischief of one student. According to details, a student messed up a lock with glue on which a teacher was infuriated and punished the whole class of 30 students for the mischief. Parents alleged the teacher beat the students black and blue with sticks and iron scale.

Muhammad Ami, father of a student Arsalan, claimed nine students fell unconscious due to corporal punishment. Muhammad Akram, father of another student Bilal, alleged the teacher locked up the students in a room and many students fell unconscious due to suffocation.

“I reached the school about 11am on Saturday to pick my son but I was shocked to find him unconscious,” he added.

The angry parents approached the principal of the school Mohammad Kashif who apologised over the incident and assured them that action would be taken against the teacher.

Taking notice of the incident, Khanewal Deputy Commissioner Daniyal Kamran directed Jahanian assistant commissioner to present an inquiry report of the issue.
