Compulsory Quran teaching gets panel’s endorsement

Under the proposed bill, Quran will be taught with Nazra from grade one to five

ISLAMABAD:
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training on Wednesday unanimously passed the Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Bill, 2017.

Chairman of the committee MNA Col (retd) Dr Amirullah Marwat said the bill was a good step and would benefit children.

Under the proposed bill, Quran will be taught with Nazra from grade one to five and from the sixth grade onwards the students will be taught Quran with translation.


Minister of State for Federal Education and Vocational Training Balighur Rehman thanked the chairman and members of the committee for approving the bill. He said that it was the need of the hour to introduce this bill.

The committee also discussed the Apprenticeship Bill, 2017 and decided to further discuss it in the next meeting.
