Corruption charges: NAB initiates inquiry against MEPCO officials

MULTAN: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Multan has initiated the complaint verification process against two senior officials of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) and a private person on charges of corruption and causing loss to exchequer worth Rs625 million.

The NAB Multan complaint board authorised complaint verification against XEN Javed Wains, XEN Akram Bhatti now serving as SE Mepco, and a private person Javed Niaz for causing loss worth Rs 625 million to national exchequer in connivance with each other, stated a press release issued by NAB Multan on Wednesday.

The NAB Multan had received complaint stating that the two officials and Javed Niaz were involved in organised power pilferage, illegal revision of electricity bills, tampering of electricity meters of various consumers and illegal transfers and postings by seeking bribes, the document added.
