KARACHI: Rapid urbanisation is Karachi’s biggest issue right now, said Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) managing director Misbahuddin Farid on Monday.

It is hard to find a single-storey house in the city now, he said, adding that the city is teeming with five-storey houses and high-rise buildings. “Where will the KWSB bring water for the huge schemes being developed in the city?” he questioned.

“When the nature of the land is changed (from residential to commercial), the water board should also be taken on board,” he demanded.

In the last 12 years, they have not received a single penny for betterment charges from the Sindh Building Control Authority. A few months ago, an account was opened to receive betterment charges but no money was received, he claimed. The cantonment boards had obtained no-objection certificates for seven high-rise buildings but have allowed construction of 700 such buildings, he claimed.
