Nine people injured in armed clash

SUKKUR: Nine people, including two sisters, were injured in an armed clash Friday night between the Shaikhs and Syeds in Nandhi Patni within the limits of the Patni police station in Sukkur.

Residents claimed that an armed clash took place between the Syeds and Shaikhs. According to them, the clash happened over a dispute over the kidnapping of a Syed girl by a member of the Shaikh community. Men from both the sides used wooden clubs, hatchets and bricks during the scuffle. Resultantly, nine people, including two sisters, were injured.

The injured were identified as Rabab and Zakia and their father, Abdul Razzaq Shaikh, Imam Dino Shaikh, Muhammad Ishaq Shaikh, Ghulam Murtaza Shaikh, Shah Nawaz Shah, Madad Ali Shah and Hussain Dino Shah. The Patni police rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to Rohri taluka hospital. A case has yet to be registered. Police claimed that, on October 5 last year, Arifa Bibi, daughter of Shah Nawaz Shah, was allegedly kidnapped by Ghulam Ali Shaikh, son of Abdul Razzaq Shaikh. After failing to find the girl, her father registered an FIR against Ghulam Ali Shaikh, after which the Patni police managed to recover the girl on October 25. However, they could not arrest Ghulam Ali Shaikh.
