LAHORE: Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana said on Thursday that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would bring economic revolution in South Asia besides strengthening economy in the region.
He expressed these view while addressing a ceremony held in connection with the International Customs Day held at Alhamra Hall.
The governor said the World Customs Organisation (WCO) has dedicated 2017 for enhanced enforcement under the slogan "Data Analysis for effective border management".
He said information technology was the best tool for data analysis. It was good that the customs department has made good use of information technology and over the years, it has made great strides in the field of automation by developing one of the best custom clearance systems in the region, the governor remarked.
Rajwana said it was a matter of great satisfaction that automation had been made to develop linkages with other departments and it would ensure more transparency and facilities for the business community.
The governor congratulated the customs department on the inauguration of a software to check smuggling.
The software has been developed in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board to monitor smuggling activities.
“The country is moving towards progress and the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army soldiers, innocent children of Army Public School, Peshawar, students of Charsadda University and law enforcement agencies will not go to waste,” the governor said.
He said the Overseas Pakistanis Commission has also been set up which was working to redress the problems of the overseas Pakistanis on priority basis.
Rajawna said the government was well aware of the problems of expatriates and all possible steps were being taken to resolve their issues.
Later, the governor also visited the exhibition of posters on "Role of Customs department in development of Pakistan".
