Torrential rains lashed different parts of Balochistan on the fourth consecutive day causing damage to mud houses, railway tracks, infrastructure and farmlands in Chagai, Naushki, Panjgur, Harani, Naushki, Wadh and Surab districts of the province.
The rain caused landslides in Harnai district, due to which a 12-year-old boy Mohammad Yunus died while two of his colleagues received injuries. The road link between Ziarat and Quetta has also been disrupted due to the rains.
According to reports, many low-lying villages in Naushki district have been inundated by rainwater causing damages to mud houses. Resulting flash floods have also washed away hundreds of acres of agricultural lands in the region. “The government must declare Naushki as a calamity hit district,” ex- union council Nazim said.
Rainwater has also disrupted the rail link between Quetta and Taftan for the past 24 hours as a portion of the track was washed away.
Several downstream villages of Jaffarabad district were also inundated in rainwater and people were forced to move to safer places. Many districts including Panjgur, Chagai, Naushki and Khuzdar are without electricity for the past 24 hours.The inclement weather and heavy rainfall also affected the Quetta International Airport and many flights could not take off or land, causing disruptions in flight schedules.
