In light of the existing Pak-India tensions Raees already had quite a few obstacles to overcome. Following the clarification of the confusion about Mahira Khan's presence in the promotion of the film, Raees is now in hot water at the hands of the Shia community. According to Hindustantimes a still from the trailer of Raees clearly shows Shah Rukh Khan plunging into an Alam.

The spokesperson of United Shia Front, Samar Abbas Jaidi said, "The actor is shown crossing over an Alam (a Shia religious structure) in a chase sequence. It is strictly prohibited for anyone to cross over the holy structure. We will boycott the movie in the district if the movie is released without removing the scene."

Did Raees trailer break all records?

Members of Shia community in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, have been offended by this scene in the film and are reportedly planning to Boycott the film.

Dailymail quoted Shia cleric from Lucknow, Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawad Naqvi, as saying that, "Mr Khan should know that such religious rituals are followed by Shias to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. We have organised a huge protest in this regard. I hope appropriate action would be taken."

The Shia community representatives have already issued a letter to Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) wherein they insist on the removal of the offensive scene from the film.
Apart from this, legal action has also been initiated and addressed to Mayur Vihar Police station (New Delhi) and Jaunpur district court (Uttar Pradesh), all demanding the exclusion of this scene from the movie prior to its release on the big screens.
