DERA GHAZI KHAN: A man was awarded death sentence and life term in a murder case in Dera Ghazi Khan on Saturday. The judgment was announced by District and Session Judge Chaudhry Muneer Ahmed.

The prosecution told the court that accused Muhammad Aqib and Abdul Rahman abducted Muhammad Mairaj two years back for having a love affair with a girl. Later, the accused gunned down Mairaj and threw his body in the jurisdiction of Saddar police station. However, the police arrested both the accused and registered a case No 58/14 against them. After hearing the arguments and witnesses, the court awarded death sentence to Aqib and acquitted Abdul Rahman, giving him the benefit of doubt.

In addition, the court also announced life imprisonment for Aqib for kidnapping the victim.  The judge also imposed a fine of Rs0.6 million on the accused which would be paid to the family of the deceased. The accused will undergo six months jail term if he failed to pay the fine.

Earlier in October, a district and sessions court in Dera Ghazi Khan sentenced a man to death after he was found guilty of killing a man over a land dispute. According to the prosecution, the deceased named Laal Ahmed and the accused Jalil Ahmed and Muhammad Tariq had a land dispute for a long time. One day, Jalil and Tariq ambushed Laal and shot him dead.
