Petrol prices set to increase 10-13%: Sources

Finance ministry has endorsed recommendations made by Ogra, decision to be taken tomorrow.

Express February 27, 2011

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has advised 10 to 13 per cent increase in prices of petroleum products. According to sources, the finance ministry has endorsed recommendations made by Ogra, and the decision will be announced tomorrow.

Sources say that government is providing a subsidy of 15 billion rupees on petroleum products and it will have to give an additional subsidy of 10 billion rupees, if current prices are not increased.

Ogra authorities say an increase in prices is necessary based on levy collected two months ago, while a six to seven per cent increase should be made in accordance to the levy collected in the current situation.

A decision regarding petroleum prices is expected tomorrow, after Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's approval.

I have not seen one single instance where the government has taken the initiative to actually publicly declare that this how we earned and this how much we invested back into the economy that has resulted in something. Regardless of what one may say that this has happened or that has happened there is nothing that the nation can see happening. Rather we have our leaders going out begging for more money. What these leaders do not realize is that they do not need to worry about anything it is the nation that pays the debt. A prime example of nothing happening is that it has been nearly 2 years or even more that the Islamabad highway near zero point is being constructed and still it is not completed. They have been unable to complete a small bridge on that highway and what they have done is so pathetic that they might as well have left the road as it was. Who is keeping on a check on this.... just a small example and i am certain there are hundreds of other examples. Simple disappointing....PPN or PMLN / Q they are all the same.
