KARACHI: Law advisers and special assistants to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Thursday removed official fags from their vehicles following a Sindh High Court (SHC) order.

The flags were removed after the SHC remarked that advisers and special assistants could not hold portfolios and attend cabinet meetings. The remarks came after the court ruled that the appointment of Barrister Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui as adviser to the chief minister was illegal.

Later, Adviser to Chief Minister on Information and Archives Maula Bux Chandio said the government has decided to challenge the decision. “An appeal was filed before the court against the law adviser, but the court has given a general verdict against all of the Sindh government’s advisers and special assistants,” he said.

On Tuesday, SHC also nullified two legal amendments made to the government’s Rules of Business and the law regarding the appointment and delegation of executive power to the advisers.

Further, the court cancelled Siddiqui's appointment as chairperson of the board of governors of the law colleges in Karachi and his appointment as pro vice-chancellor of the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law (SZABUL).
