Corruption-free society: ‘Good governance can be guaranteed by promoting merit’

Official says corrupt practices have affected state institutions

BAHAWALPUR: Good governance can be achieved by promoting a merit-oriented and transparent institutional mechanism which is a key component of the Punjab government’s dynamic vision of eliminating corruption.

Anti-Corruption Regional Director Syed Tariq Mahmood Bukhari said this while addressing a seminar which was held at Government SE College Bahawalpur on Wednesday.

The seminar was attended by College Principal Professor Dr Wali Muhammad, chamber of commerce former president Dr Rana Tariq, Anti-Corruption Deputy Director Faisal Ata, Chaudhry Zahid Majeed, Abid Nisar, Akhter Bhatti, Rashid Maqbool, teachers, students, civil society representatives and others.

“Punjab government has undertaken a solid and effective policy initiative which would improve functioning of the state institutions and to streamline their working on rule based administrative paradigm," Tariq Mahmood maintained.

He further said corruption in government departments must be rooted out to establish a corruption free society.

The regional director pointed out, “The anti-corruption department has launched a comprehensive drive to promote public awareness regarding corruption and corrupt practices that affects the society and state institutions.”
