LHC stays auction of DTH licences

A three-member bench headed by Justice Ayesha A Malik issued the stay order on a miscellaneous application

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday stayed the auction of Direct-to-Home (DTH) licences the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) had planned to carry out today (Wednesday).

A three-member bench headed by Justice Ayesha A Malik issued the stay order on a miscellaneous application. Representing the petitioner, Asma Jehangir pointed out that a full bench of the LHC had reserved its judgment on her client’s application regarding the DTH licence auction and urged the court to stop it till the full bench issued its verdict.

The court attached the application for stay order with the main application and forbade Pemra from auctioning off the DTH licenses.
