A merit citation ceremony for the graduating class of 2010 was organised by the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karachi, said a press release on Monday.

Dr Ishrat Husain, the dean and director of the Institute of Business Administration, was the chief guest. A large gathering of officials from the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, the Aga Khan University-Examination Board along with the graduating students and their parents attended.

During the academic year 2010, three students achieved the top three positions with the AKU-EB in the HSSC examinations: Muhammad Aziz (88%), Syed Akbar Ali Shah (87.8%), and Mehak Rajani (87.45%). Alicia Khan Ghauri (88.55%) secured the fourth position in the pre-medical group, Maryam Muhammad Farooq (84%) and Muhammad Hussan Irfan (83.9%) secured the eighth and the ninth positions respectively, in the commerce group in examinations held by the BIEK.

Students given awards for co-curricular activities included Mehwish Shahzad Rizvi, who participated in the 2nd Annual Volunteer’s Photography Competition organised by the ICVolunteers Geneva, Switzerland.

Zarak Iqbal won second prize under the category of “iCube” in the Procom.net competition held at NU-FAST and Izhar Ali represented Pakistan through the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in its NSTC Programme at the 42nd International Chemistry Olympiad held in Tokyo. Kainat Imtiaz won a gold medal at the Asian Games Women’s Cricket Finals held at Ghangzhou, China in November 2010.

For many consecutive years, AKHSS, Karachi has been the recipient of the best college award given by the BIEK.
